HOW DO I TREAT MY ACNE PRONE SKIN WITH ORGANIC SKIN CARE?
Acne is a reoccurring skin problem for many people… Today, thousands of products exist on the market with the promise to eradicate acne. However, a large majority of these treatments contain chemical ingredients that are far too aggressive and drying for acne prone skin. As a result the skin becomes more sensitive and the acne reoccurs.
Discover a new, safe, yet effective, organic approach to put an end to your acne.
WHAT IS ACNE?
Acne occurs when the pores become clogged with sebum, impurities and dead skin cells. This is what contributes to the emergence of what are called microcomedones. At this stage, bacteria (P. Acnes) proliferate, feed on sebum, and produce irritating agents that trigger an immune response. This process thus contributes to the appearance of inflammatory acne lesions such as papules or pustules.
There are different classifications of acne lesions. However, regardless of degree, all acne sufferers have the following in common:
- Overproduction of dead skin cells and thick sebum, which clogs pores
- A proliferation of Acnes bacteria
- Inflammation contributing to the onset of papules and pustules
- A damaged protection barrier causing dehydration
5 STRATEGIES FOR TREATING ACNE SYMPTOMS
- Decrease the production of dead skin cells
- Minimize the production of thick sebum
- Control the proliferation of acnes bacteria
- Calm and prevent inflammation
- Repair the skin’s protection barrier
SKIN CARE STEPS: WHAT TO AVOID AND WHAT TO CHOOSE?
The synergy of treatments selected for your skin care routine must follow the 5 strategies listed above. Here are the steps to take in order to treat your acne.
- Cleanse the skin:
- Avoid: using soap-based or sulfate-based cleansers. These cleansers tend to remove the protective acid coating from the skin and aggravate the symptoms of acne.
- Choose: organic micellar foam or organic prebiotic-based gel cleansers. Micellar foam is an excellent choice to gently cleanse inflamed skin. These types of cleansers will eliminate excess sebum and promote beneficial skin flora without removing the natural protective barrier from the skin.

- Balance the pH:
- Avoid: Alcohol-based toners, which are too dry for acne prone skin.
- Choose: A toner comprised of soothing and antiseptic organic floral waters, and containing, for example, organic salicylic acid for a slight exfoliating effect. Apply the toner after each step of your skin care routine where the skin requires rinsing with water. Recommendation: pH Toner BioAcne
- Exfoliate:
- Avoid: Exfoliators containing non-biodegradable microbeads which are too harsh for the skin. These microbeads tend to irritate the skin and may sometimes cause bacteria to proliferate and thus worsen your acne. Also, avoid benzoyl peroxide-based exfoliators that can promote skin drying.
- Choose: organic salicylic acid exfoliators; they are an excellent choice for gently descaling the pores, or even natural enzymes of birch bark or bamboo. If your cleansing product or your skin care products already contain an exfoliating agent, you will not need to use an additional exfoliator in your acne skin care routine. You can also benefit from a deeper exfoliation of the epidermis by having a professional chemical peel at your local spa or med spa. This chemical exfoliation will help reduce the appearance of pores and acne scars as well as reduce inflammation and refine the skin. - Localized treatments
- Avoid: using a localized treatment on your entire face. In fact, a localized treatment contains a higher concentration of antibacterial actives. It is specifically formulated to re-establish the bacterial equilibrium on inflamed regions which present higher levels of bacterial proliferation compared to the rest of the face. This is why it should be used only directly on papules and pustules.
- Choose: an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial serum with exfoliating agents. The anti-inflammatory action will calm and control localized inflammation that causes swelling and redness; the antibacterial action will combat against the proliferation of bacteria; while the exfoliating action will prevent the accumulation of dead skin cells. For example, use organic ingredients such as anti-inflammatory magnolia bark extracts or sanitizing tea tree essential oil and exfoliating salicylic acid.
- Day and Night Creams
- Avoid: Creamy textures that are too rich in oil and will tend to leave a glossy film on the skin.
- Choose: Lighter gels without a greasy effect. It is important that your skin care products have the ability to regulate sebum production without drying the skin. Focus on hydrating treatments with humectants which have the ability to hold water, such as hyaluronic acid, for example. Your daily skin care routine should also offer purifying and anti-inflammatory properties.
